I live in country in North Dakota and there are a bunch of tiny anthills on the side of my gravel road. It's been raining for the last few days and today is hot and humid so I thought I'd look for Lasius Neoniger. Anyway, I was brushing the hills and I found a bunch of small ants and a winged ant. I'm not sure if it's a queen because it's kinda small and so is it's head but it was much bigger than all the other small ants around. It's an orangeish colored ant. Thanks for all the replies!
If I wasn't clear enough or you would like to see more pics of everything, let me know and I'll add them!
Is this a queen? What species is it?

The second posts picture looks to be lasius niger but the picture is so fuzzy i cant really tell. As far as the other pictures they need to be better quality to tell.
With all the things ants can do, you wonder, who rules the planet
