I took a walk in the same path that Mikey filmed his last video in in Toronto, since it is practically in my backyard. Found 6 queens, 5 of which look the same, but the 6th looked different and was larger.
I have a number of pictures of both species below. Can someone identify them? Bigger queen first.
Species 1 - 12mm. Seemed to have a shinier gaster than the rest.

Species 2 - 10mm Seemed to be very black all over

If you get images of the front of the head and images of the gaster, emphasizing overall shininess, then we can pin a species ID to these queens. These are a little dark -- you'll want to use a flash or photograph her against a darker background so that light metering is easier.
If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.
