Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

Yes thank you! I had thought 3&4 looked similar but thought I should post separately in case. I'm new to ant keeping this year. Super excited about the tetramorium!

I have a very healthy happy colony of Tetramorium that occupy about 3/4 of a hybrid nest. They are indeed good pets, but I personally wish I could find anything other than Tetramorium where I liveMTKRailroad wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2017 4:56 amYes thank you! Is it okay to have them in the containers they are in? I don't have any test tubes.

I would suggest you get some test tubes because it is the best way start a colony I'm also new and started this year and I have four queens who seem to be doing just fineMTKRailroad wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2017 5:24 pmIs it okay to have them in the containers they are in? I don't have any test tubes.
Let us remember that even though ants are wonderful creatures, even more magnificent is their creator

It's better to have test tube but other containers will work fine just keep a moist cotton ball in the container.MTKRailroad wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2017 5:24 pmIs it okay to have them in the containers they are in? I don't have any test tubes.

Re: Hey I could use some help identifying a few queens.
The first queen is a Formica social parasite from the sanguinea group. She will need Formica pupae if you are going to keep her.
The other two Formica can't be identified to the species with the given photographs.

If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.
