I found a colony of these ants on the mid north coast near port macquarie in bushland around my farm and i was hoping i could get some help ID'ing them. The ant in the photo is a major, approx 17mm long and very aggresive, the nests they live in a dried clay mounds about 10-15cm high out of the ground. Thanks

Definitely not there. 17 millimeters long? That's as big as the queens over here!

With Camponotus diversity as it is in your area, I'm afraid we would probably need to identify this worker by hand.
If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.
