So they are queens? And I found them in an ally way on the way home, England, Kent. There was like 50 all in one place on the floor, not one of them had wings and I only had two test tubes on me. I went back the next day for more, but they were all gone.

Yeah they are Lasius Neoniger queens

if it's england it might be niger, but yes you have Lasius queens

They are both roughly 1cm in length, maybe 1.1cm. I don't wanna disturb them as one has laid eggs now but that estimation is pretty accurate.
