First queen!

Caught in St. Peter, MN. Sunday July 16.
8-9mm long. Not even sure it's a queen.

Its a queen for sure it looks like a lasius niger (the black garden ant)

Pretty sure it's a Formica sp. queen

Saweet thank you! Now to do my research. Just checked her today already counted 6-7 eggs. anyone know how long it will take for the eggs to hatch for this particular species?

Thank you thank you. TBH I just used my iphone. Made sure the lighting was good. normal room light plus a flashlight, at the right angles (you're gonna have to play around to find the right angle). Then crop photo, which is why it's a little grainy up close.

But that's about it. No special cameras. Just two steady hands an iPhone and a flashlight.
