Ant Identification and Help
Hi so I am new to this forum so please pardon any difficulties I may have. I just got this new queen ant and I was hoping for help identifying it. I was also curious because I have had her for nearly 2 weeks and she has only layer one egg which she later ate. I livejust outside of Boston Massachusetts, I found the queen in a grassy area surrounded by trees if that matters. I am currently keeping her in a bottle similar to that of a hand sanitizer.

camponotus queen. Someone else can help you with the specific ID
Proverbs 6:6-8
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

Hey, glad to see you have gotten a queen! Judging by size, color, and location I would say this is Campanotus cf sp.
While I am not super good at identifying queens I am learning and hope this is accurate, I would wait for other members of the forums, especially Batspiderfish as (s)he is very good at this. Hope she produces many ants for your new colony!

Re: Ant Identification and Help
After doing some research I would say Camponotus cf. pennsylvanicus
But Batspiderfish will have the definitive answer.

I agree with C. pennsylvanicus.
If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.

Thank you all! Any ideas for the egg laying issue? I am keeping her in an unair conditioned room in a dark box. I have a bad habit of checking on her every 2 days, her bottle is also getting slightly moldy.
