Weird occurence
I was ant hunting out side but I found a camponotus queen on the side walk but she was dead. What does this mean I was very confused.
Re: Weird occurence
It could have been a male because they die right after mating, or if it was a queen it could have died from anything
Re: Weird occurence
It was definitely a queen with wing scars. I think she dried out or something.

Yeah, queens die a lot. only a certain percent actually get through the founding stage. It could have been the sun, or really anything.
Proverbs 6:6-8
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

I found a 'dead' Camponotus Queen curled up on the side walk two days ago. I picked her up because she wasn't squished or anything and I gave her a few days in a test tube set up and she came back to life. She's fine right now and has three eggs. I've heard that Queens were durable but wow, lol.
