42, 7MMS queens caught in cape town

So I caught 42 Orange queens. In cape town south africa
they are 7MM long and I found sum digging together

I have or I had to test because I ran out of tubes and I think they are because for six of them I found huddled together under a rock
also do you guys know what they make their tree nests out of?

Pet owners should always avoid taking in more than they are able to care for. I don't think there was much planning in this. No hobbyist needs this many queens for themselves.

I mean, mistakes are mistakes, but we gotta ditch this notion that ant keepers should catch as many queens as they can find. If you take proper care of them, their mortality rate isn't that high.

Are there a linup of buyers to take them off your hands? Releasing them is akin to killing them in most circumstances, and is not an acceptable choice according to myrmecologists. Catching more than ten queens (which is still a lot) without an established professional need is an amateur faux pas. I don't want to encourage any other hobbyists to operate in the same way. We already have too many newcomers tearing apart logs for colonies they are incapable of caring for.

None have laid eggs so I will only keep 7 tubes the rest I will release by a rocky area with plenty of resources.

I totally agree with you. I am a newcomer sorta and totally disagree with others trying to dig up or rip apart logs to get entire colonies already established. I have caught a couple Queens by doing so but I make sure not to disturb any established colonies
