Is this crematogaster?
I was working on a wood project the other day when this sweet thing came to visit me. I've heard crematogaster have heart shaped gasters. This looks pretty heart shaped. This is the only clear picture I have though. I didn't have a ruler but against my pinkie (if assumed to be 1cm wide) she was about 4-5mm long. I am on Okinawa, Japan.

damn what a beauty
Re: ID Request
There's More To Identifying Crematogaster Queens, Than A Heart-Shaped Gaster.
For Instance, They Have Two Petiole Nodes Instead Of One.
But Yeah, This Is A Crematogaster Worker.

Re: ID Request
Nope. Crematogaster queens still have that one petiole. There is more to identifying Crematogaster than the gaster, though.
That said, I concur. Crematogaster worker.

I know there is more to it than just the gaster but I you can easily tell this one is a crematogaster . And of course it's not a queen. I think they knew that already

Re: Is this crematogaster?
Crematogaster are from Myrmicinae, and so have two petiole nodes.
If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.

Wait.. whoops. I'd forgotten they had that stinger. I blame the fact that they use it for a brush rather than its purpose.Batspiderfish wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2017 6:23 amCrematogaster are from Myrmicinae, and so have two petiole nodes.

Re: Is this crematogaster?
I know that I'll probably research this as well but when you guys talk about petiole nodes, would that be the area between mesasoma and gaster? And I'm sure I spelled that wrong (mesasoma). I guess I'm just trying to figure out exactly where y'all are talking about. Like I said I need to do my research and learn the anatomy of an ant.
