i did find the lack of brood interesting, i used a nail to build some tunnels into dirt inside the container i'm keeping them all in, so far they've actually been fairly inactive as far as i can tell, so i'm guessing maybe i stumbled upon them in there rest stage? pretty much all they've done is dig a bit, and for how many ants i have in there i would think it would be much quicker.
Formica actually do not keep any brood over winter.
I did not know that. Thats definitely interesting.
I have my Aphaenogaster fulva colony that's wild caught but when I caught them it was only the queen and roughly 20 workers and some brood/larvae. They are doing great and only had I think 2 workers die off from the move. Best of luck to your wild caught colony
Thank you for all the helpful insight, i was actually really worried she wasn't a queen due to the lack of brood and how new i am to all of this. I do wish you luck with your's as well.
