While this is true, I've seen them listed as native for Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Florida, and even up to Virginia. I wouldn't be surprised if they were wiped out, though.

Solenopsis geminata is not from North America. The fire ants found in the Southeast US are almost always Solenopsis invicta.

Probably were at one point. Most likely wiped out by the invasive fire ants.
