Asking for identification help please:

Size: 8-10mm

When: 2023/07/02

Where: South Central Oklahoma - Lake Texoma
Found on hood of silver truck. Wings on.
Reddish head similar to pogonomyrmex, black gaster with some bands, black and red middle part of body (thorax?). Black on the outside with pretty bright red in the middle on the top. It’s a pretty distinctive pattern. I feel like I’ve seen It on queen ant pics or videos, but can’t currently find it.

Behavior: She Removed wings within 30 minutes of capture.
Very calm.

Any help is appreciated. Imported Fire Ants are very prevalent around here.

She is from the genus Crematogaster, nice find. ;)
Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.

Thank you AP24!
We will look up care and formicarium recommendations for that genus.

If you have any recommendations, it would be well received.

All the best.

I believe this species would do fine in any well made nest, some good brands are:
  • TarHeel Ants
  • Buckeye Myrmecology
  • AusAnts (based out of Australia so really expensive shipping)
  • AntsCanada
