I found these guys in a conspicuous stick on the ground. They're polymorphic dark orange ants with black tipped butts-er, gasters. The babies make cocoons . The workers about about half an inch and the queen is almost an inch. The queen looks like her workers, but larger. I suspect they may be some species of camponotus ant. Also, she's got like 10-15 workers and a bunch of brood; any guess on how old they are?

Re: North Carolina ant
They are Camponotus. Could you get pictures not through the container so that they are clearer? If so, I might be able to help you with the species. In the pictures I see larvae and pupae. However, I'm sure there are some eggs. It normally takes two months from egg to worker for Camponotus.ThunderMuffinMan wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2023 12:25 pmI found these guys in a conspicuous stick on the ground. Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.
