Please measure with a ruller instead of using a penny. :)

She's a fire ant queen; Solenopsis invicta or Solenopsis xyloni.
If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.

What are fire ants doing with nuptial flights in Jan?

I know that Solenopsis invicta mates year-round, whenever conditions are adequate.

My girlfriend was uncomfortable at first with just having ants in the house in general. She agreed as long as I kept them in the basement. I thought I was smart keeping them in my man cave thinking she wouldn't want to go in there with the ants in there...she keeps going in to check them out hahaha
