I was chopping up rotting logs this morning, and I happened upon a glossy black ant hiding in a crevice just inside the surface of the wood. It has an enlarged gaster, a stocky abdomen, a small head, and moved very purposefully (if that makes any sense?). Is she a queen? (It rained two days ago. Well, it stopped raining two days ago, and it rained for several days before that) If she is a queen, what species is she?
I attached some images of the ant in question. She is approximately 7.5 millimeters long.
SW Ohio: Is this a Queen? If so, what is it?

I've done some research, and I think it could either be some Lasius species, or a type of Crematogaster

Crematogaster queen. Best to wait for workers for a proper species ID.
An ants' strength can be rivaled by few animals compared to relative body size.

I think the species is Crematogaster Cerasi, and thank you for the help! She's in a 3D printed founding chamber, but she's getting an extension soon.

How exciting - one of my absolute favorites! I gasped as soon as I saw her. Start a journal, I want to see how she does!
