I'd say the further inland, the better chance for a queen. Argentine ants displace any and all ants besides themselves.

Don't fret- Where in CA do you live? If you live anywhere near Los Angeles, there's a GAN farmer close who regularly collects queens from the southern California area. As well as on GAN, he also posts his listings here: http://www.formiculture.com/topic/440-dspdrews-ant-colony-adoption-southern-california/

The closest one to me is in Sonora which is about an hour and a half away. I mean I've seen some male carpenter elates around last week so I think I'll still try to find a queen. Plus I don't think my parents want to drive me that far and turn back.

Well if you're in that area, definetly go searching for queens 25 miles away! I was thinking you were on the coast.

Yeah I'm in the east bay haha. It's sort of in between the coast and the Central Valley.

Yea, if you track the product when it is shipped it always seems to come from Utah... it's great for me because products come quickly to my place :D
