Idea for disconnecting tube

This could be built into nests and out worlds at the connection points.. Once access is blocked at one point would the ants turn back the way they had come?. If they would then the second one could be closed.

Not sure, this would need to be tested, if you could safely decouple tubes without killing ants or letting them escape after closing the route.
