the sad life of a drunk ant queen

i was digging outside for queens during a thaw today when i came across an ant queen, most likely a lasuis parasite. i brought her inside even though she looked like she drowned or froze to death. i put her in my sink area to clean her off she then moved! i was excited and
i cleaned her off and put her down. she looked drunk but alive and started cleaning her antenna cleaned her antenna.

knowing the queen was not going any where a moved to dry off Gary the spider a hitchhiker on the spade that brought the queen inside.

when i brought my attention to the queen she was not moving much. I quickly put her in a test tube and ran water over it starting with cold and gradually going to warm. when i took her out she looked dead. after 30 minuets I concluded that she had died (I released Gary back into the outside). I don't know exactly how she died but i have my suspicions. it could have been the water and she drowned but i don't think this is likely. it could have been the heat of the water on the test tube which is most likely or i t could have been me mishandling her with the toothpick which I hope it isn't. i still keep her just in case she is alive but i doubt it. i'm just sad she is gone .

Rookie mistake. That queen was hibernating. If you find a hibernating queen or colony, you’re not supposed to force them to come out of hibernation with lots of heat. You’re just supposed to leave them in a room temperature area until they warm up themselves.

I've already watched all of them the hot water idea just seemed like a good idea at the time. she was all sluggish cold and wet from the snow melt water i rescued her from it would seem that she would like a hot water bath

lol. Definitely a nice thought man, but ants dont take baths. Not good for them! Good thing the season is just starting, and youll find a bunch more!!
