Yes AntsCanada uses food coloring and it doesn't have any dangerous additives

Mixing different varieties of food coloring along with sugar, water and a waxy base, he set out small droplets of liquid on a white plastic sheet outside in his garden and let the ants do the rest. “As the ant's abdomen is semi-transparent, the ants gain the colors as they sip the liquid,”

It should be fine, even if it was dangerous, my ants once got out in a room with boric acid, and I didn’t know the tube got pulled out… I was worried…. But they were fine. They must not have eaten it.

Once again though, food coloring is used in almost every icing, and many people, including AC, have fed ants cake.
