Maple syrup and water

Has anyone tried putting maple syrup and water solution in a test tube with cotton (like with regular water test tube) with any sucess, or might this be a bad idea?

I don't think it's a bad idea, however I don't know if maple syrup needs a lot of of processing to be human edible. Could be that super market maple syrup is harmful to the ants but it would still make a good alternative if it was just like honey, another good source for sugar.

Would be interested to know if someone has tried it as well but for this we probably need people from Canada with access to raw and processed maple syrup.
