Test tube size?

So I recently ordered 50 test tubes from online. When they arrived they were smaller then I thought they would be. So small I had to rip my jumbo cotton balls in half. That was okay though because my queens were only 1.25 mm. I was wondering, since the test tubes would hold less water would they dry up faster. My queens are small so they would not drink as much. I think the test tubes were 100 ml and I filled them about half way with water so they would have about 40 ml of water. Any info will help! :D

I would want the test tube large enough that the queen can turn around comfortably. I have had some large Camponotus queens that had a hard time turning around even in the AntsCanada test tubes, but they could still do it. If the queen can turn around, I'd say you should be fine, other that possibly having to provide new test tubes if water runs out quicker.

my test tubes started out huge, being old cigar tubes. but im heavily invested in these 15ml test tubes from work. (very cheap and we use them once, so i sterlize them and take them home.)

they have fill lines, so i fill 9ml water, and jam a cotton ball there, then about 2-3ml is taken up by the dry cotton ball (regular sized) they seem perfectly fine, and as they grow it seems they automatically get more room. the wet cotton ball sucks backward as it dries(who knew) at about 1-2 ml per month, so she should have enough for at least three months, i think the next wave will be filled to 10ml, just in case.

The ants are all 8mm or shorter, they can easily tun around.

my image hoster is down no picture.

image, this is at 8mm water, so it has sucked back.
