Hello!
I'm thinking about building an ant farm. I have checked some AntsCanada videos and they were very useful, but don't I like the baby powder technique to keep them in the formicarium. What do you think about a moat in their open area? A ring of water I think would stop their breaking instincts, because as I know, ants can't swim. Here is a simple blueprint about my idea:
Ant farm with a moat. Is it an effective ant keeping technique?

ants dont necessarily swim, but they can float, and can't drown. You would probably get escapees that fall in and then float over to the other side.
Proverbs 6:6-8
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

Would make an interesting outworld concept. Obviously some ant species can circumvent the moat such as fire ants etc. Would be interesting to see whether other species have learnt this technique.
I know you don't want to try babypowder, but have you looked into Fluon?
