Hi, I was wondering if anyone has ever used strait up concrete mix to make a formicarium? Would it work and would it be dangerous to the ants, also, would I need to put any additives(like sand, rocks...)in the mix?
Thanks!

Concrete alone does not absorb water, it just sits there. I would suggest an alternative like grout mixed with perlite, or even plaster. The ideal homemade formicarium materials, (IMO) are;
1. Ytong
2. Naturalistic Dirt Setup
3. Grout mixed w/ Perlite
4. Hydrostone
5. Firebrick
6. Plaster
7. Cement
