Omni nest vs natural nest?

Hi guys,
Last week I got a queen and I thought she was a pavement ant, so I was either going to buy the large vertical omni nest and slowly give them room after hibernation, or I was going to go natural and put them in a tank with a filler in the middle and about and inch thick walls of dirt for them to naturally dig in, with the outword on top of the filler.
Now turns out that I most likely have a carpenter ant . Can I still do either of those things with her(omni or natural dirt)? Will they dig in dirt or should I make a few dirt walls into wood planks???
Thanks in advance for the help!
