What barrier to use?
I haven't started my own ant colony yet, but I am planning to do so this year. I was just wondering what barrier I should use for my outworld. Trolololololol
Re: What barrier to use?
Baby powder + rubbing alcohol
or you can buy Fluon

Although Vaseline is said to be a good barrier, it isn't. The ants are able to crawl over it.

I find it to honestly be the opposite. My Prolasius colony go near the vaseline.

I use Fluon and its great. Expensive but works wonders. The alcohol and baby powder method works ok as well.

Fluon works wonders on most species. Also it is the only thing ive found that doesn't leave an absolute mess around the rim of an outworld.

Vaseline is a very unreliable border. It works for some species but doens't work for other (I've read Journals where S. invicta walked right over it and Formica species tend to stick debris on it to create bridges across it, Camponotus ants are also able to walk over it but usually only do when they feel they have to). Humidity also has an extreme effect on it's performance, I've had several people saying that it decays very quickly under dry conditions and it can even damage acrylics if it sticks on them for longer periods.

Proverbs 6:6-8
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

I tried vasaline with my crematigaster and they just walk on it like its not there, I tried the Fluon and alcohal and baby powder and it didnt work but vasaline with baby powder over it works great however if the outworld gets to humid the powder kind of gets wet and they can clime over it.
