Does Camponotus barbaricus really need artificial hydration in the nest? I've read that given enough water supplies they are entirely capable of keeping the nest hydrated on their own and additional hydration is likely to cause more harm than good.

hi there actually all ants need hydration and they will still need ant artificial hydration although you do not really need to put much water cuz camponotus ants are dry loving ants

most of the water that ants get is absorbed through their excosceloton. they onlyrally drink water when their home isn't humid enough
Proverbs 6:6-8

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.
