Yes it means they are having the nuptial flight. I started seeing them the 18th as well and caught a queen the 19th. I live upstate new york and know someone from syrcasue that caught 2 as well. Havent seen anything since the 19th tho. I think it was a smaller nuptial flight should see more in the weeks to come.

I am from New York as well, and live near Syracuse. Any queens you or your friend might have for sale? I haven't had much finding them on my own. Been actively searching to no success.

I will ask my friend and get back to you. As hes got a few extra but not 100% certain if they are for sale. It would be more convenient if he sold them anyways considering he probably lives near by you. I will get back to you in the next day or two.

I spoke with him late yesterday evening, hes only got 2 queens as of right now and even though hes a generous person he stated he didnt want to give out a queen this early and it not be fertile. With that being said you still have plenty of time to find one. Check out this link of a not so professional but i believe helpful post in finding tetramorium queens.

Hope this helps.

I too live near Syracuse and haven’t seen any queens whatsoever this season! All the methods that I used to catch 10s of queens last year are working this year!!! Any tips on how you or your friend found theirs this year?
Been ant keeping for 1 full year now and have 1 successful Tetramorium sp. E colony, 2 Lasius flavus queens, and 1 Lasius neoniger queen! Even though I’m fairly new, I’m passionate about the hobby and appreciate much advise!

Yes go to this link, and read what I did this year to catch them. As for my friend he caught only 2 in one go, but he walked for like 3 hrs.

I saw at least 15 wingless queens this morning but only took two home with me. I don't want to keep more than I can handle nor support due to lack of equipment.

I've been going out after rainstorms but I haven't been able to find any queens other than Camponotus. Has anyone else been able to find any Tetramorium?
I caught 3 on my driveway.
