School project

Now in my school, we have this last project, where I chose the subject Ants.
But I have a little hard time answering the questions about ants, and it has taken a lot of my time trying to answer the questions correctly.
It would be nice if you help me answer the question or gave me a bit more knowledge about what I should write and what is important to know about ants.

(I tried to translate the Danish words to English).

What is it that made the ants into one of the most succeeding insects on the planet?

How is a colony of ants sat up? (jobs and tasks) (hierarchy).

Which ant is the most popular? in Denmark?

What weapons are the different ants using, and can humans take damage?

How do the ants like their home the best?

- thanks from Denmark

Hey Esben
I'm from Denmark too. I'm a noob to this forum and ant keeping but i believe that i can answer some of your questions.
The most common ant in Denmark is lasius niger also called "Sort have myre" in danish. tings in " " will be danish from here on
Ants have 3 main weapons:
1. jaws or mandibles i think "kindbakker", they can't do serious damage but can be pain full.
2. Formic acid "myre syre" this is what "tissemyre" use to defend with watch the episode of "bidt, brændt eller stukket" with Sebastian Klin (a show called bitten, burned or stung)
this link is only for danes. sorry
this is for everybody
3. A stinger like a bee or wasp, some with poison as strong as wasp.

as last bit of help try to look at this link, there is a lot of info on ants in denmark
"lasius niger er på side 21"

The reason i write to you in English is that i think there is a policy on the page that the langue is English.

Best regards Rolf
