My queen that I have had for 4 months has just sheded her wings! That means she is my first successful ant! :D https://twitter.com/mcsquiid/status/928446203817230346

Sorry to burst be a wet blanket here, but shedding wings unfortunately does not always guarantee that the queen mated. :( Continue hoping though, but if she hasn’t laid eggs by now (and this does vary by species, some don’t lay eggs till after hibernation) she may not be mated... Keep taking care of her!
sorry about that :(

yeah it is sort of a misconception that the shedding of wings determines whether or not she is mated. I have had a queen that didn't shed her wings till her brood was well developed. Mikey Bustos had a colony that didn't ever shed her wings, but raised a sucessful colony. also, When alates in a captive colony are unable to fly, they shed their wings and help out in the nest as if they were workers. So anyways, sorry. :? But hey, there is always hope!!

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.
