Ants Australia Nest Size?
I've founded a colony of lasius niger recently, and when my colony fills out the test tube, I wanted to put them in an AA nest. I just wasn't sure which one to buy. There'd probably be about 50 or so workers. Which one shall I buy?
Thanks, ANTphibian

Either getting acrylic or Ytong doesn't really matter, but Ytong will be easier to hydrate. The size? Well, it's best to get the 2nd size but it all comes down to your colony growth rate and their size overall.
Honestly, questions like this don't actually need to be asked in a forum. Just go by your own common sense and instinct, it's alright to trust yourself! You don't want the colony TOO cramped, you don't want your colony to have TOO much space but you want that right size. Anyways, the AA store will be back on October 13th with the new acrylic nests. Wish you good luck with you and your colony!

i'm not sure about sizing, but As far as ytong/vs acrylic, its really up to you and your personal preferences. I prefer acrylic, as it is a sleeker design than ytong. But if I was to go with ytong, I would chose the color black instead of some cheesy kiddish color. Lasius would thrive in either type. BTW, dont feel bad about asking this question! in my opinion it is a perfectly good thing to ask.

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.
