Does anyone know how Mikey mixes his baby powder and alcohol?
I got my new outworld yesterday and I need to put a barrier, and I hear Vaseline isn't always reliable. Does anyone know how Mikey mixes his deterrent? How he mixes it, and how much.

I don't think anybody has put forth a recipe for it yet, maybe that is something which should be done soon. It's not too exacting; it just needs to be thick enough not to run down the sides, but without being pasty or lumpy. Too much will lead to the barrier flaking off whenever the setup gets bumped. Try to go for unscented powder whenever possible.

I have found that ants cross the barrier easier if you use rubbing alcohol. It is a lot more difficult to cross if you use just baby powder applied with a cotton ball.

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

None of my ants can cross the barrier painted with the alcohol mix.

when I do it it does stick. it jsut coats the walls in a very thin layer of powder that is very difficult to cross. My ants are tetramorium and they used to cross the baby powder/rubbing alcohol barrier pretty easy, they just often would chose not to if they were well fed

Sorry, I wasn't trying to say that your method doesn't work! I just wanted to vouch for the slurry method.idahoantgirl wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2017 9:22 pmwhen I do it it does stick. it jsut coats the walls in a very thin layer of powder that is very difficult to cross. So you just dip the cotton in the baby powder and apply it?idahoantgirl wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2017 9:22 pmwhen I do it it does stick. it jsut coats the walls in a very thin layer of powder that is very difficult to cross.
