When was the last time it rained and do you live in the city interior do you have any park or some patch of greenery near by.

If you have the queens get distracted easy my by all the lights in the city and for solenopsis you don't need any greenery they are very common they live in wall crack, pavement.etc

Wish you a good luck you will find a queen soon

And check near the lights in the park

Honestly you don't have to look for queen ants they find you it's all about patience, that is what I learned when a camponotus queen appeared in my bathroom :/
Exactly this. I waited patiently for almost a year before a Camponotus queen presented itself at eye level as I was walking out of the shower, towel-around-waist™. After watching many of the AntsCanada YouTube videos, I was ready with sterile test tubes and clean cotton balls.

She settled in quicky, and I discovered that she had lain a small cluster of eggs on day 7:

A few more weeks in and she seems happy:

Moral of the story: be prepared, be patient, and keep both eyes open!

I just wait for queens. You eventually see one crawling on the ground, or maybe, if you're lucky, one landing on your table.
On hot days I carry a test tube in my pocket all day. This was after I found one and didn't have a test tube at that moment and it went horribely wrong.

I'm sure. Camponotus are not segmented like that.

Actually, the more I look, the more I think I'm wrong about that. Seems like too many eggs for a Camponotus, though?

Here's an excellent place for test tubes.

https://www.lcmlab.com/Test_Tubes_s/129.htm

They sell quite a few for cheap.
