That won't work, pupea don't have the scent of the colony yet, that's why it does work with pupea.Workers on the other hand do have their colonies scent and won't identify with the queen and probably end up killing her.

What would happen if you had them in 2 different test tubes but sticky taped them together with a cotton ball between them?

I think a fine mesh would be better, lets the scent travel from tube to tube without obstruction.

Interesting, I don't know if that would work but I'm sure it would take a long time before they have the same scent. But you can always try it .
