Don't despair upon what ants might not live where you do; look at what you have! At least one of the aforementioned species is probably on the coast. The common name of Pogonomyrmex occidentalis is, after all, the coastal harvester ant.

All I've ever seen are monomorium, tetramorium, and formica.

Do what I do: keep looking! You're bound to run into some species that interests you sooner or later.

If we are talking about dream ants, then how about an ant about the size of Carpenter Ants but shocking red or green, have eyes that seem to actually see you, build up to a few hundred workers, with big, burly majors that walk around looking interesting and that move things around for mysterious reasons, and the ants build up fast and then the population stabilizes. That you can feed dry cat food and bird seeds, don't sting or bite people, and that make strange high pitched noises when they are doing their ant things. When they need something, it's obvious what it is by what they are doing. And that are easy to contain without too much effort. Do you know of any dream ants like that for me?
