Dream Ant Colony
Lets just take a moment and open are minds to more wishful thinking...
Say you live in any part of the world, where would it be and what colony would you keep there?

Re: Dream Ant Colony
I quite like where I live in wisconsin but my dream species is camponotus novaeboracensis or maybe tetramorium immigrans, but personally fid carpenter ants fasinating because of their large size and ploymorphisim.

Re: Dream Ant Colony
For me, its probably Pheidole. They have casts of workers and are interesting to watch. Though they can pack a painful bite, they cant sting. Also they can eat nuts so its prob easy to keep and feed. They also grow fast.
Sadly they dont live in Michigan

Re: Dream Ant Colony
I just realized literally almost every genera of ant lives in Florida excluding weaver ants and army ants. For leaf cutters we have trachymrymex I think we have Atta in the panhandle, we have invicta, big headed ants, black crazy ants, Camponotus, and even trap jaw ants. But, due to the amount of invasive spieces all the interesting natives are hard to find. I say the invicta ratio to native ants is about 10:1. In an acre of land, I found 2 Camponotus colonies and tons of pymrid ants and fire ants. RIP native ants.Antloverhuman wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 10:23 pmI absolutely love leafcutter ants and bull ants but none on them are found here

Re: Dream Ant Colony
In my area the main native ant species that have dominated the land are black crazy ants. Like its impossible to go visit India and not see them every where. Other popular ants are camponotus compressus and of course, the famous Oecophylla smaragdina. There are solenopsis geminata but if you compare them to these, they are barely any trouble.
