Ordered the Small!

I'm so excited ouo

I ordered the Omni Nest Small for my young Prenolepis imparis colony. They're growing a lot faster than I expected, there are already 6 workers, and a lot of pupae that look like they're going to turn into workers soon.

Plus, my queen will only lay eggs once a year, so she probably won't have a huge work force to help her move in anyway. Maybe 10-15 workers. It'll be nice to have it there and ready for them should they want it.

Also my plan, since they don't seem to want to move even into a new test tube, is to maybe close off a chamber or two of the omni nest by the hydration sponge/exit and make them a small, semi-test tube like setup there so if they finally want to move away from the moldy cotton, I won't have to worry about having them move again later.

But anyway when I get it I'll post pictures and such I'm just SO EXCITED!

I don't think ants lay eggs "once a year", but do lay in increments and take breaks at the beginning. Your queen will lay eggs more than that so that's good!!! :D

Actually I was doing research and apparently Prenolepis imparis queens lay eggs in one burst after a long, few-week super cold period. I don't know if this will be different since they're in my room which is a pretty stable temperature, and you know, there's a lack of nature cues and all that.

But I'll definitely keep an eye out to see if she lays continuously ;u; !!

Either way, I don't mind how fast the colony grows. Tenenbaum can take her time <3

I totally will ouo
Though does anyone know when they're going to be shipped out?
The website said 'in stock' and I ordered it three days ago. I haven't gotten the shipping email yet.
Just curious, I like to know these things.
