I'm new to ant keeping and this is my first year looking for queens. We just had a good rain storm this last Friday night and it has been very hot the last few days here in Iowa and I have been lucky enough to find 10 Camponotus queens this weekend. 9 of them look like pennsylvanicus but one of them looks like novaeboracensis. I found the novaeboracensis on a walk around my neighborhood at about 4pm yesterday and as you can see she has already laid eggs. The eggs kind of look like they are on her back but they are just on the test tube wall behind her.

Re: Camponotus Queens
Nice catch! I'd love a C. Novaebarcensis queen but there aren't any in my area. Keep us posted!
An ants' strength can be rivaled by few animals compared to relative body size.
