i would test it by taking one worker in to a Tupperware container and placing it in the out world so the worker will want to get out by going over the barrier. if it stays in it works if it gets out it doesn't. This is just an experiment.

It will keep them in but keep an eye on them and get a new lair of the barrier every week or two depends on humidity and size mostly
Keeping : 2 Formica colonies: 5-10 workers
Tetramorium : 1 colony 3-5 workers
Lasius Niger : colony 30+ workers
