Help with Messor Barbarus

I have a little bit of a problem, well at least I think so. 3 days ago I introduced my Messor Barbarus colony (~40 workers) to their first formicarium. Almost immediately they started digging and they're digging ever since. However, the first (and only) tunnel they've made is fairly wide and it took them 3 days to dig out. Could my substrate be to loose? I'm using coco fiber. I've seen them trying to make more tunnels but without success. Is that normal? Or is something wrong with the substrate?

Thanks in advance!

A small colony can take a long time to dig, my c.nicobarensis colony took over a month to dig a hole big enough to move into, just give them some time
