humidity question
hello just a quick question i just recently moved my ants into a big set up with a cotton plug at the top filled it with dirt its a big tupplewear container in any case i noticed the heating was causing a lot precipitation to gather at the top and killed a worm in the set up i just wanted to know if it would effect the ants as well and what are the signs a colony is getting effected by humidity

Re: humidity question
Humidity is how ants get most of their water. Condensation occurs when warmer humid air condenses on a cool surface, and small animals can drown in it. If you get rid of the heater and/or allow the moist air to escape, the condensation will probably go away.
If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.
Re: humidity question
would keeping the set up in a larger container open help at all i was considering putting a large insect barrier and removing the cotton stuffer
Re: humidity question
the biggest concern i have is there is mold starting to grow at the top and i dont want it to overtake the set up i was considering giving them a water source and letting the nest dry till the mold or i think its actually fungi slows/stops
Re: humidity question
if you have a very fine mesh you could put that on instead of the cotton and that will air out the container more. the extra fresh air should keep the mold down.
