Hello,

I am new to the community and hope to soon to have my own ant colony. I was thinking of either starting with temnothorax or aphaenogaster picea. I live in Ohio and it is going to be winter soon; as I understand it, it would be good to help the ants into hibernation. I keep my house at 63 degrees Fahrenheit all year round. Would this be ok for the winter hibernation, or do I need to heat the formicarium in the winter as well as the summer? I was thinking of purchasing:

But maybe something better to use?

Anyhow, as you can see, I'm just beginning to learn, so any good advice is quite welcome.

Thanks!
