Queen ant troubles

I caught two ant queens at the end of the month of July. Both of them didn't have a pile of brood and laid two eggs each which I thought was normal with new queens. The one I caught first had two larvae and was doing good. Last week I changed their test tubes because the water has become cloudy. I made sure both of them took their brood with them. Now after checking on them a week later their eggs and larvae have disappeared and the cotton has black mould growing on them. Since I live in Saudi Arabia I thought that they didn't need hibernation. But they are showing signs of lethargy and only moved when my phones flash was on. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Any update on this? Have your queens laid more eggs? I assume she got stressed in the move and ate her first eggs.
