Lasius niger egg hatching time?
Hi all,
I hope someone can help me. I have a lasius niger queen with about 5 eggs. 3 are very small and white and 2 are bigger and brown. I have had her now in a test tube setup for about 4 months. When i got her she had just laid her eggs.
I want to know how long they should take to hatch. The water is her tube is running low and i dont know how im going to add more water.
Thank you

Re: Lasius niger egg hatching time?
I'm new to the ant keeping hobby myself, so don't take my answers as expert knowledge.
As far as i know:
Egg to larvae in 10-12 days
Larvae to pupa in 10-15 days
Pupae to adult ant to 10-25 days
The queen might eat her eggs if she is stressed and she will lay new eggs, so it might not be the same eggs.
You can change the test tube by placing it in an outworld and placing a clean test tube with new water next to it.
Make the new tube nice and dark, expose the old one to light. It will encourage her to move.

Thank you for the reply. I have found similar figures but i have had her for about 4 months now. I dont know why they are taking so long to hatch. I jist hope they do soon and she does starve.
Re: Lasius niger egg hatching time?
I have also learned that Lasius overwinter their larvae, but I don't know about the eggs.
I hope your queen and eggs will be okay.
