Hey, so i actually just got into Ant colonies about three days ago so the 15th give or take. When I was little i had one of those gel ant farms and always wondered why there where never more ants. I was real little and over the past three days i have learned a decent amount and in those first three days I believe i have actually been able to get 5 queens. I believe the queens I have managed to find are Formica Pallidefulva. I am extremely excited and have ordered one colony tank so far. next pay check i will be ordering the rest. Was reading about this particular species and some sorcies said that the queens can co-exist in the same habitat but can be catastrophic for the colony if the queens where to meet face to face. I can buy and probably will get 4 more tanks next week with my next paycheck just curious to learn more from people who actually have the experience and for some people to share stories..
So I do have 5 pictures of my Queens but if someone confirm that they are or at least try and confirm that they are Formica Pallidefulva. The first was caught on July 16th, about mid day in New Jersey North America. The other 4 where caught today which is July 18th again Mid day in New Jersey North America. If you guys could clarify and can help me out with any additional information on the species that would be fantastic. Also one more thing; anyone know if you can have them in 4H or does it hurt the colony to move them?

Though I'm not a specialist, I do believe those are Formica Pallidefulva queens.

wait... can ants be in 4H?????!!! IT shouldn't hurt them too bad to move them. Stress them out a bit, yes, but as long as they are a semi large colony (over 100 workers) They should be ok.
Proverbs 6:6-8
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

Call me stupid.... but what is 4H??
Re: New to Ants, Just starting. Help if you can :)
4h is like an agricultural farmers fair. And I don't see why ants can't be. I mean they have snakes and spiders and all that why not ant colonies
