Rained all day in tampa,FL get ready for the queens

Its been thunder storms and rain all day here in tampa,florida.yall know what that means NUPTIAL FLIGHT BABY!!! With in the next few days of course.cant wait to try and score me some Solenopsis queens in the day and camponotus diring the night.to bad i only have friday off from work this week.

I am on vacation in FL and saw a bunch of queens yesterday ( I think some Solenopsis geminata and a Camponotus species). I live in PA and since it is cruel, careless, and not to mention illegal, to import non-native species across state lines I did not collect any. I did look so I could get practice with finding them and identifying if their a queen or not though. Good luck searching!!!

Ya inland of florida got rain before us.hopefully i see some queens by friday.i spent alot of time in preparing my formicarium I'm building.of course i won't be able to use it in about a year,till i get a good enough size colony .i dont believe in buying pre fabricated set ups or buying queens.it takes all the fun and love out of a hobby if u have people do it for u.or maybe its cause im carpenter by trade and love building something from the ground up lol.

So it begins. I got my first queen at 9:45am today,i hope thats not to early.she still has wings .i think is camponotus.

Don't be afraid to collect a few just in case one or two are not fertile. You can always release back where you found them if you have to many or join the GAN program and sell them!!!
