Ok, thanks. The way I know the species is because it is the only species of Polyrachis in your country.

Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.

this one specimen is about 1 cm big compared to other specimens I caught and released.
and I could not find anything on the web about the average size of spiny ant workers.
and also I could not find any info whatsoever about them including the flight schedule

When you need information about a species of ant, https://www.antwiki.org/wiki/Welcome_to_AntWiki is a good place to look. Try looking up the species on there, that should answer your questions.RaptorX wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 1:36 pmthis one specimen is about 1 cm big compared to other specimens I caught and released.

Well……
1) the whole wiki itself is a lost cause
2) the info is messed up al over the place
3) i already spend hours trying to find at least the size of said ant
And i think i found the ant that looked like the ant that i found only said that its native to australia.

Once you learn how to use it, it is one of the most helpful useful ant websites on the internet. Did you use the search bar in the upper right of the page? Here is the image from antwiki of their size (incase the print is to small to read, the bar is the length of 2mm):RaptorX wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 12:40 amWell……

Well, I can tell almost for certain that your ant is Polyrhachis lacteipennis, but hat species are you thinking?
Also here is the link to the antwiki page for this species:https://antwiki.org/wiki/Polyrhachis_lacteipennis

Re: Nuptial flights in the UAE
I would suggest https://antmaps.org/?, https://www.antweb.org/ and https://antflights.com/. They are very reliable and simple to use.
My current colonies:
-Miniature Military(formica neogagates)
-Black Hearts(crematogaster cerasi)
In search of new camponotus colony
[Have a look at antmaps.org]

Re: Nuptial flights in the UAE
It's less about the area and more about the time. Not a large amount of species have information about their nuptial flights, but we can get a general idea on genera. If you have camponotus in your area you can see that the general timings are around June.antperson24 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 9:19 am
