My son and I are looking to get into ant keeping. Any tips for searching for queens around these parts?

Re: Northern Idaho
Hi! Welcome to ant keeping. We just started last year. Queens will normally be around from April to Sept. Just go for walks on sidewalks and keep your eyes on the ground! I carry a few "snap cap" vials with me whenever I go for a walk just in case I come across some. The ants just woke up here in Western WA, based on the weather I don't foresee ant queens for about another month. However, just keep a lookout whenever you are walking around outside! I have found most of mine on walks during breaks at work.

the closest time to look for queens is when it hits 65-70 degrees because that's when prenolepis imparis fly's
