Lol, so jealous.
I have to wait another 7 months for the Australian ant season to start again

Hey,
I just moved to Washington State. I'm out by the Alki area. Hoping to find some pretty queens too, I did see what looked like a massive Lasius Colony moving from one lawn to another!

Nice!
Looking at the weather, it will probably be late April/early May before anything starts flying. If you see any queens out post here!!! I am located in the Sammamish/Snoqualmie area.

Re: Ant Watch Western Washington
Well, welcome to the forum and WA. Generally once we have several days of 65 F and then a good rain we will start to see camponotas start flying, the good news is they will keep flying 3-4 after that on days that are warm and dry. I will definitely be posting when they start up and as I catch them. Good luck!

Re: Ant Watch Western Washington
So I have seen a lot of ant activity this week. The pavement ants are marching and moving nests a lot and I have seen a species that looks like fire ants but are entirely non aggressive
Re: Ant Watch Western Washington
Weather was decent and I spent about hour looking for queens last night. No luck, just one salamander!

Re: Ant Watch Western Washington
That would be myrmica sp, common around here. Also called "european fire ants". However there is zero relation to the tropical fire ants. They do sting tho! But are very non-aggresive, actually one of the more calm species of ant in general. I tend to get alot more aggression from all other species I have (camponotus and formica) than I get from Myrmica.
