Hey! I'm from MA. We have a New England thread over on Formiculture that is very active:
http://www.formiculture.com/topic/4877-massachusetts-anting-thread/

One anter from that thread lives in Northern RI.

We also have a thread right on this forum: http://forum.AntsCanada.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=900

Oh, and those Lasius were probably not flying. They likely flew last year and overwintered before searching for a host colony.

Oh ok thanks. But the weird thing is is that I caught a Lasius interjectus queen with wings on her.

Interesting! Perhaps a fluke from a nearby colony, or a flight really happened.

Doesn't L. interjectus fly in the spring?

They are the earliest fliers for parasitic Lasius, but usually not this early.

Where in RI you all from? I'm a Woony-tune. Just started ant keeping this year.

I found a queen with wings on in quonsett on the ANG base. Looked a camponotus-like (large blackish) had brown wings, and judging by the massive head it had i'm guessing it was a parasite? Wishing I had brought a test tube with me but explaing why I have that to the guards may have proved challenging.

Was planning on just keeping P. imparis this year, but I might try to snag a temnothorax or 2 also this season.
